The ScriptNavigator is a person who helps a team of writer/producer/co-writer/director or dramaturg - whichever constellation - to bring any project to the next level through a specific period of time.

This happens online: in writing in a safe, interactive workspace (this is what scriptDock excels in), accompanied by video calls to set up the common goal, vision, strategy, steps, etc.

Imagine:

If your SCRIPT were a SHIP, loaded with crew and cargo, crossing unknown waters, facing a tricky passage

This is when you need a navigator.

The ScriptNavigator

The ScriptNavigator comes aboard for a certain time, let’s say getting the ship into a harbor. For this specific process, the ScriptNavigator functions as a pulling engine that leads the ship, and everything aboard, into the designated direction, and then steps away again.

As the captain you steer your ship. Sometimes it makes sense to be pulled by an external guide.

The ropes are only attached to this guide for a short time. After the maneuver is complete, the Navigator leaves your ship -project- to continue your voyage. With no strings attached.

Meaning, you can work with the ScriptNavigators suggestions (notes, ideas and drafts) while you hold all rights to the material.

The ScriptNavigator is MORE THAN A DRAMATURG

ScriptDock Navigators are SCREENWRITERS, SCRIPTEDITORS, and COACHES.

This means, we have worked with hundreds of scripts and concepts, we’re experienced in the delicate team building processes, we are familiar with many of the common pitfalls, and extremely adaptable & creative in solving them.

When is this useful? Some examples:

  • You received notes from a broadcaster that shift the cargo, a.k.a. require a major re-think. This means digesting the loss of invested time & ideas, which can be quite high. External support is needed to adjust the course and meet the harbor.

  • You and your team are not quite in line with the same north star. You need to reunite around the same vision. This might require guidance and objective assessment of consequences, so you can make a choice based in consent, not chaos.

  • Someone jumps ship - after artistic differences, but also when schedules don’t align. You need to reconfigure the destination, the cargo, OR the captain! This requires team-building, while adapting the course to the new destination.
  • Any moment when unpredictable changes are required to keep your ship afloat!
What goes overboard, what is essential for this vessel? Do we man the pumps, or set the sails?

  • Any time you are facing a deadline that is ridiculous, but necessary.

What are the rates?

The rates for this service depend on three things:

The size of your vessel. How many pages are you looking to shift into the next stage?

The duration of the maneuver. How many weeks are required to make the shift?

The size of your destination. What is the estimated budget for the project?
